Summary
The game follows Sonic the Hedgehog as a member of a resistance force against Doctor Eggman, who has taken over the world with the help of his robot army and a mysterious new villain known as Infinite. Gameplay is similar to Sonic Generations with players controlling "Classic" and "Modern" versions of the titular character; the former plays from a 2.5D side-scrolling view reminiscent of the original Sonic games on the Sega Genesis, while the latter uses three-dimensional gameplay similar to Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors. In addition to the two Sonics, Sonic Forces also introduces a third gameplay mode featuring the "Avatar", the player's own custom character.

A resistance comprised of Sonic's friends is formed to fight back, and in the midst of the chaos and destruction, an unlikely hero will rise up to help Modern and Classic Sonic take back the world. Even these three heroes may have their work cut out for them, as Dr. Eggman has a new ally of his own... but all of that was poorly executed in the story. Seriously, Sonic Team? This is a bad game, mediocre at best. If you wanna play it, go ahead. I'm not stopping you. If you enjoy it, SURE! It's your opinion. Anyway, 5/10, f*ck this game.

What I like about this game is the music, it's not bad. But when I grew up, took my friends to listen to it, they were laughing me off. Then I realized, that it's childish and just cheap compared to music from Sonic Unleashed and Generations. Please, do not pay for this game, because the more it sells, the more bad Sonic games will we get.

It's not the worst game SEGA's made, but for the time spent on the game, there should've been more polish, because the game felt rushed. 30 levels, each 2 minutes long. The game can be beaten in 3 hours on a first playthrough, and that's only due to the insane difficulty spikes and Classic Sonic's whack controls. It's not amazing.

Its my first review on Metacritic and i was so impressed by SF that try to wrote this words to cheer you up!SONIC FORCES, for me, its first game after Sonic Adventure 2 that has that old 16 bit spirit of Sonic games on Mega Drive.

The game breaks immersion with the create your own Avatar / Sonic character, but the story does a good job including the new Hero to the Sonic Universe pretty well. Overall, It's a fun game but with a lack of substance in the story, and a ton of challenge to fester over with objectives a plenty to do in each levels varied design.
Sonic Forces is for me - Sonic's fan, painfully average. When i realy enjoied this non stop action in beautyfull graphics and realy good musicSonic Forces is for me - Sonic's fan, painfully average. When i realy enjoied this non stop action in beautyfull graphics and realy good music there comes linier level design, underdeveloped compared to Sonic Generations controlos and annoying, cringe storyline. It hurts this game.
I'm really glad i was able to play as my OC, Blonic the white ice bat. She's even even cuter in real life. Can't wait to make a body pillow.
The avatar feature is pretty nice and has a lot of options, and the graphics are impressive, but the game is no where near as fun or polishedThe avatar feature is pretty nice and has a lot of options, and the graphics are impressive, but the game is no where near as fun or polished as the previous boost games. The level design is way too linear and most of the gameplay is automated. The story is weak and was clearly rushed, and all of the characters do nothing but rely on Sonic. Classic Sonic shouldn’t even be here, he’s only here for nostalgia, which is pointless since Mania came out only 3 months before. The controls are awful, since acceleration isn’t smooth, jumps are too heavy, and the only challenge from the game is trying platform. Worst of all, this game is really short. There are 30 levels that are usually 1-2 minutes long, and the game is only about 3-4 hours long. This game is inconsistent, and it wasn’t even made by “The team that brought you Colors and Generations” which Sega said in the first trailer. Just buy Sonic Mania, it’s half the price, and better in every way.
Sonic Forces’ few merits (like the soundtrack) are not enough to offset primitive gameplay, crude level design, poor pacing that completely obliterates the sense of speed, and the script that resembles a fanfic.
When I first saw the Trailer for Sonic Forces,I was glad Sonic was returning to the Boost Formula that made Colors and Generations my 2When I first saw the Trailer for Sonic Forces,I was glad Sonic was returning to the Boost Formula that made Colors and Generations my 2 Favorite games, but when i played this at a Friends house I didn't like it too much,First off level design was bleak and really short,The only thing you were doing in Modern Sonic levels were boosting, hitting the occasional Enemy, and in certain levels quick-time events, In the Avatar stage You were abusing the wispons and going through automatic drift sections,In Classic Sonic levels,You can no longer spindash and for some reason Classic Sonic had a dropdash,I didn't know if it was me but the control felt very weird and what I thought would be a great Sonic experience turned to become one of my least favorite games for this year,The Graphics were gorgeous and We could finally play as Shadow
I won’t pretend that Sonic Forces is a disappointment – it telegraphed its kitchen sink approach to content a long time ago. Desperately trying to please every kind of Sonic fan, it is every bit the mishmash of half realised ideas vying for your attention that it seemed like it would be. I guess I just never expected that their attempts to hold that attention would be so feeble.

Lets find out.Story-Sonic is defeated and eggman finally wins, sonic and his friends along with generations classic sonic and a new custom character team up to destroy eggmans army and also to beat the almighty new villain infinite. I like this story because it is something fresh and pretty surprising, I felt attached to this story and usually in sonic games I ignore the story a little and focus 100% on beating the game 100% but this one had a very memorable story, not to say sonic stories suck though.Gameplay- The gameplay in this game though not the best is still fun, The levels though not memorable or ones I will remember much are still fun to blaze through.Music-Though this is no crush 40 at all the music is still great like all sonic games even if its one of the weaker sonic soundtracks.Graphics- Yea sure it looks a little better on ps4,pc and Xbox one but the game still looks great on the switch at 1080P even out of doc mode.SCOREBOARDStory-10/10Gameplay-8/10Music-8/10graphics-9/10Overall- This game though not as good as colours or generations is still great for what it is with great music, great levels, an outstanding story and gorgeous graphics so I will give it a 9/10-FANTASTIC
Sonic Forces improves on the 3D gameplay but ruins Classic Sonic. This game will be met with torches and pitchforks by the fans, but their kids will have fun with the custom created character and the rest of the game.
For the first time in years, I actually enjoyed and looked forward to going back to a Sonic game and will continue to hunt those red star rings for a while yet. But the main USP of the avatars let the side down. I really hope Sonic Team continue with the duel Sonic crossover games as they seem to be providing them with their best output in years.
Sonic Forces is a mixed bag, but the bad outweighs the good. Its few bright spots - mostly in the form of classic Sonic - get dimmed by the muddled mess of the weaker elements, and the lack of content doesn't help. The game's biggest achievement is the reminder of old school Sonic's superior gameplay.

It features the stylish, blazing fast gameplay that fans of the series loveIn ways both good and bad, Sonic Forces is certainly a Sonic game. It features the stylish, blazing fast gameplay that fans of the series love but also the questionable level design and inconsistent quality control that critics often point to.Unsurprisingly, the game is at its best when you're tearing through levels as Sonic (in either his modern or retro form) and at its weakest when you're not. Although the create a character component has some degree of charm to it and it is fun to craft your own anthropomorphic super critter, these levels are just never as fun as the Sonic ones, despite the game's wise decision to mostly keep to speedy gameplay and entirely eschew the slow, plodding platforming of supporting cast in previous games. The story is unintentionally hilarious with dialogue and plot beats that would be cringe worthy if you weren't too busy laughing out loud at them. The tone is completely scatter shot, jumping from flat jokes to mundane chatter and then sometimes even surprisingly dark developments, often all within the same cinematic. The whole Resistance/Knuckle's Army angle feels contrived and by-the-numbers and the introduction of yet another generically named villain is superfluous, even though the character himself isn't that bad.I had some fun with Sonic Forces, and it is by no means a low point for fans of the troubled series, but there is just really no reason to play it when we already got Sonic Mania, a far superior game, earlier this year.

Sonic Forces is yet another stumble in a series that looked like it had regained balance after Sonic Mania's launch. A game for hardcore fans, although won't be so appealing to the rest of potential buyers.

I genuinely don't understand why people don't like this game. The story keeps me on my toes, its super fun, throws amazing moments at me left and right, and I only have one problem; It's way too short! I beat it in 3 days and you can easily beat it in a shorter time.

I personally did enjoy my time spent with Sonic Forces. But that didn't blind me to the flaws. The level design for both the modern Sonic and avatar stages is quite good, and the controls are probably the tightest they have ever been in a 3D Sonic game. The story might be a little dark at times, but for the majority of the game, it works well. And for once in a Sonic game, the bosses are actually a highlight. I loved every single boss fight there was to play through. But despite all of these great things, the game still had problems. For one, the worlds feel very uninspired when you compare them to the awesome worlds of games like Sonic Colors. And it feels like there's a lot of lost potential in the game. I won't spoil anything, but near the end of the game there is this one stage that introduces the prospect of this really cool idea (people who played the game will most likely know what I'm talking about). But about ten seconds into this stage, they instantly ditch the idea and throw you back out into the normal gameplay. That was super disappointing. But the biggest disappointment of all was classic Sonic. The gameplay for classic Sonic was superb in Generations, and Sonic Mania was an excellent way to revive that form of gameplay in it's own title. But Forces provides the most sluggish 2D Sonic stages I have ever played. The stages often feel pointless, and mostly like an afterthought. These stages honestly range anywhere from mediocre to the worst stages in the game. It's not even like classic Sonic has that big of an effect on the game. Sonic Team could have left him out and solely focused on modern Sonic and the avatar, and I think the game would have turned out much better. But despite these flaws, there is still an enjoyable game in here. If you are a Sonic fan, then this is definitely worth your time. If you're not a fan of the series, you still might find some enjoyment in here.
A solid new iteration in Sonic's series, with fun and frantic gameplay even if we would have liked more playable characters, while the new Avatars feature left us quite unimpressed.

Sonic Forces may not be the worst Sonic game ever made, but it’s close, and I don’t think the speedy blue hedgehog has many more chances to impress before gamers like myself lose all hope of him returning to his former glory.
Sonic Forces may have created some hype but unfortunately, it mostly falls flat on its face as it quickly becomes obvious that this game is an exercise in disappointment. While the action runs smoothly whether on a television screen or on handheld mode, the game's short and unimaginative levels, the absence of gameplay mechanics that had become a staple of 3D Sonic games, the unreliable controls and the mediocre soundtrack all add up to a very flawed game from which a lot more was expected.
Poor controls, short and few levels: the game is over as fast as Sonic runs. It has its moments, but considering the positive prerequisites, the technical shortcomings make the game a mess.
Sonic Forces is not, like several entries in the series, offensively bad. There are some stages where you can’t help but be swept up by its breakneck pace, pounding soundtrack, and chaotic pinball table levels. It’s just unfortunate that it was released so soon after Mania, which took the best of old Sonic and made it sparklingly relevant again. Forces, however, is plagued by inconsistent level design, floaty controls, and a risible Saturday morning cartoon storyline that only kids and rabid Sonic fans will find entertaining.
Forces continues the trend of Modern Sonic games being very average and not even an injection boost like Classic Sonic or the new customisable Avatar character can save this from being average at best.
There is too much wrong with Sonic Forces to recommend it to everyone, but if you’re hankering for 3D Sonic, and you’ve finished every other Sonic game, then check it out on sale.
We get the impression that Sonic Team wanted Forces to be the Best Sonic Game Ever, with a Greatest Hits package of everything good in the series, but they didn’t have the time, money or talent to accomplish this. The 2D sections control poorly, and the 3D sections sport the same problems that the series has had since Sonic Adventure – such as dying if you don’t play the level exactly as the designer intended. There’s fun to be had, but even then Forces feels so cheap and abrupt that you’ll be finished with it entirely in 4 hours. It’s not the worst 3D Sonic game, but in trying to do everything Sonic Team didn’t really accomplish anything. Next time, stick to just Generations 2 or Colours 2. Or even better – give Sonic entirely to other developers.
Sonic Forces mashes together everything from Sonic’s history, from 2D/3D mechanics to over-the-top action spectacle pieces. The new customizable hero feature breathes fresh life into the franchise, but the 3D gameplay it uses overpowers the game’s attempt to combine what has made the different eras of Sonic work.
Sonic Mania is undoubtedly a tighter, more exceptional experience; Sega should really allow that team to design the levels for the next 3D release! But if you missed the 3D Sonic experience and can tolerate some bland level design and roughness, Forces is certainly a worthwhile follow-up to Generations – especially for the reduced asking price.
Sonic Forces is a short and easy videogame, which also has a rude and imprecise control. In my opinion, nowadays there are many better alternatives than Sonic Forces on the market but it is enjoyable for kids and for all sonic fans.
Sonic Forces ultimately fails to advance the mechanics of previously successful 3D Sonic games, or present them in their best light. A mediocre platformer at best, Sonic Forces manages to do nothing more than reinforce long held stereotypes against Sega's beloved blue blur.
2017 is the year the Sonic franchise stops running from itself. Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces celebrate different eras, but they both take the same shameless “all-in” approach. Sonic Forces is a confident game, serving up a story and stages that go for broke while dodging the pitfalls of the past. As long as you’re not a hardline 3D Sonic hater, this earnest, entertaining adventure is worth a spin.
Sonic returns with an adventure full of good intentions, but poorly executed. The control and level design are the main issues to tackle, but if you're a hardcore fan Sonic, you'll probably enjoy the game.
Despite my multiple gripes with Sonic Forces, I still enjoyed the adventure. 3D Sonic games still aren't to where they should be after such a long time of iteration and experimentation, but through improved gameplay and level design, Sonic Forces continues the series' evolution in the right direction.

So many options and accessories for you own character, unlocked by getting higher ranks. I also like the Wispons a lot, they put an interesting twist on the gameplay increasing the replay value, as different wispons have different paths made for them. In short, I LOVED the custom character.I also enjoyed the story as it's dark and keeps you interested in the game, but at the same time doesn't take itself too seriously as it is a sonic game. The Modern sonic stages were also really fun with the boost gameplay, and the boss stages were a delight to play. I don't particularly enjoy the fully 2D Classic level but they weren't bad.Final Score: 9 out of 10, A fun new exciting adventure :)
Sonic Forces isn't a particularly bad game, it's just a game that never seems to find it's true potential. An overly complicated story and some design flaws stop Sonic Forces just shy of greatness, leaving a decent enough experience to enjoy.
It’s not a great game, but it’s solid. It looks nice, plays smooth, and the gameplay variety is solid. It’s an average 3D Sonic game at a budget price, and that’s not really a bad thing.
Sonic Forces is a disappointing rehash of everything that has been done wrong with the Sonic franchise in the past. There were some good ideas here, but none of them were executed in a way that was fun or enjoyable.
Sonic Forces is a well crafted game that definitely was worth the wait and anticipation. The story is well crafted and not so serious that itSonic Forces is a well crafted game that definitely was worth the wait and anticipation. The story is well crafted and not so serious that it forgets that the main character is a super fast blue hedgehog against a fat egg shaped doctor who builds robots. It actually managed to tread new ground and give us a story we've never truly seen in a modern Sonic Game. Gameplay wise it is very fun and bridges the three generations of Sonic games well. The classic 2D side scrolling days with Classic Sonic. The adventure formula kicked up a notch with the custom character. He/she has gadgets that you can customize to make him/her handle how you want. He/she also has a homing attack similar to Sonic with his grapple claw that handles slightly different from Sonic's homing attack just to make sure that they don't feel too samey without making them feel too different. Modern Sonic handles identical to the way he did in Sonic Colors. He has the boost, slam, homing attack, double jump, and slide kick. He doesn't have the drift which isn't a big deal considering the level design is made with this omission in mind. The soundtrack is awesome. This game has come to be my 3rd favorite Sonic game ever. I love this game and guess what? The custom character unlocks are in game unlocks as opposed to loot boxes! Big plus there.

It's mostly just exceedingly average. Levels are short enough where I never once felt like they were a chore to complete, and there's enough variation in there in terms of setpieces where you can really start to see the framework of an expansive, epic Sonic. Hopping around Eggman's base in space while navigating moving platforms gives me flashbacks to the great pair of Sonic Adventure games -- a simpler time.
Whoever this shoddily made platformer is meant to please it won’t be those that like Sonic Mania, or any of the better 3D Sonic games.

One thing is it's a bit short, which I know Sonic Generations was short, but this one seemed shorter, even with 3 character stages (well 4 actually). Another thing is that the custom hero and modern Sonic stages were about 60% quick time events, and the bosses were incredibly easy (except the very last boss). It wasn't Sonic Generations 2 with a different name, but I feel like it would've been better off that way. However, the story was fantastic and dark, some of the music was great, the graphics were pretty great, and the classic Sonic stages were alright. Overall, I feel like this game had potential of being one of the best Sonic games, but it ended up being just good, with the gameplay being ok. I really hope that Sega and Sonic Team doesn't take this as "we shouldn't make 3D Sonic anymore" and take it as "we need to make a better 3D Sonic game" or "we need Sonic Adventure 3!"
