Storyline
Year 2046 / Dragon City
Neuro-comp interfaces, bionic prosthetics and nano-biotechnology have all become commonplace. Society is highly developed, but the gap between the haves and the have nots has only grown larger.
Xiang Zixu, a brilliant private eye, is killed while investigating the disappearance of a famous female journalist. Immediately after his death, he wakes up with a start in his apartment bedroom. Before he can process what happened, his phone rings and his colleague at the agency tells him of a new case: the disappearance of a famous female journalist.

Loopmancer Reviews & Ratings
It's hard to say that Loopmancer has brought any innovation to the roguelike genre, but it tries its best. The branching and decision-making parts of the story are pretty good, but there are lots of places where it falls short in terms of narration.

Combat is decently varied and funBad-Forgettable story, setting, and characters. Generic music. Levels have a very inconsistent fun-factor. Redundant enemy types.Thoughts-Overall, Loopmancer gets enough right to be a compelling package for some rogue-like enthusiasts, particularly those that devour everything the genre spits out. The action is fun and varied and the levels mix things up just enough to make replaying them avoid feeling like a slog most of the time. Had the levels felt more fundamentally different in subsequent runs or the designs of each stage been more consistently unique from one another, that could have really made me forget about the story, setting, and characters being almost impossible to care about. But as it is, it feels more like a good rogue-like that just holds itself back a bit and ultimately doesn’t quite stand toe-to-toe with the scads of better examples of the genre we’ve gotten over the last few years.
Loopmancer has all the hallmarks for a phenomenal game, but is just let down by some mechanical issues and a middling story. It’s stellar visual design will reel you into its Cyberpunk world and its fast-paced combat will hook you into trying out even more outlandish varieties of weapons. Unlike most dystopian cities, the rot only occurs at the top and in patches, leaving a healthy and exciting core to explore for a few loops. Just don’t look at the faces, even Dredd couldn’t make them any more hideous.
I liked it, good combat, gadgets, abilities and graphics, perhaps it just needs a couple of patches, speed/reaction for example, whenI liked it, good combat, gadgets, abilities and graphics, perhaps it just needs a couple of patches, speed/reaction for example, when defending is kinda slower but you get used to it. Soundtrack/music is kinda off and the storyline is alright, not bad not too good. Id say 7/10 metroidvania, gets the job done.
Loopmancer is a good game for gamers who want a very specific experience: a mix of action and rogue ideas that tells a cyberpunk-themed detective story. The combat mechanics require time to master and there are solid challenges to engage with. The rogue aspects are a little underdeveloped and it feels like unlocking weapons requires too much money. But the game never tries to innovate in any of the spaces it is working in. It has no ambition other than to deliver a good mix of ideas that can keep players engaged. I wanted to see a cool twist on the cyberpunk future or combat mechanics that expands genres. Loopmancer is a solid experience that never becomes more than its parts.
